A Copper Bonded Earthing Rod is a high-strength steel core rod that is molecularly bonded with a thick layer of electrolytic copper to provide excellent conductivity, superior corrosion resistance, and long service life. This combination of steel’s mechanical strength and copper’s electrical performance makes it a cost-effective and durable solution for grounding and lightning protection systems.
copper bonded earthing rod, copper bonded ground rod, copper coated earth rod, electrolytic copper bonded rod, steel core copper earthing rod, corrosion resistant grounding rod, electrical earthing copper rod, lightning protection copper rod, IEC 62561 copper bonded rod, UL 467 ground rod, threaded copper bonded rod, industrial earthing rod, telecom grounding rod, renewable energy copper ground rod, heavy duty copper bonded earth electrode
Material Composition: High-tensile steel core bonded with 99.9% pure copper.
Bonding Process: Electrolytic molecular bonding for strong adhesion between copper and steel.
Corrosion Resistance: Copper coating (typically 250–300 microns) prevents rust and degradation.
Mechanical Strength: Steel core enables easy driving into hard and rocky soils.
Electrical Performance: Low resistance to earth, ensuring effective fault current dissipation.

Copper Bonded Earthing Rod (appropriate length & diameter)
Driving head / driving stud (to prevent rod damage)
Coupling dowels (for multiple rod extensions)
Sledgehammer or mechanical rod driver (jackhammer with rod adaptor)
Earthing conductor (copper strip or cable)
Copper earth clamp (threaded or bolted type)
Measuring tape
Earth resistance tester (3-point or 4-point method)
PPE – helmet, safety boots, gloves, safety glasses
Select Location
Away from underground pipes, cables, or foundations.
Preferably in moist, loamy soil for best conductivity.
Check Soil Conditions
If soil resistivity is high, consider multiple rods or chemical backfill.
Mark Rod Position
Ensure the area is accessible for testing and maintenance.
Position Rod Vertically at the chosen location.
Fit Driving Head on top to protect the copper coating from deformation.
Drive the Rod
Manual Method: Strike the driving head with a sledgehammer in steady blows.
Mechanical Method: Use a powered rod driver for deep or rocky soil.
Use Couplings for Depth – If one rod isn’t sufficient, attach a second rod with a copper coupling and continue driving until the desired depth is reached.
Target Depth – Usually 2.4 m to 3 m or as per design/standard requirement.
Clean Rod Surface – Remove dirt or oxidation from the exposed section.
Attach Earthing Clamp – Tighten securely to avoid loosening over time.
Connect Conductor – Use copper cable/strip, ensuring direct copper-to-copper contact.
Use an earth resistance tester to check the installation.
Acceptable resistance: Typically < 1–5 ohms depending on standard (IEC, IS, NEC).
Record readings for compliance documentation.
Always confirm the absence of underground utilities before installation.
Use PPE to prevent injury from tools or debris.
Do not install during thunderstorms or heavy rain.
